Remote work news 🧠
Fortune 100 companies are back in the office — but 'work from home dark matter' is thriving under the radar: data reflecting how many US workers are actually in the office tells a different story, said Nick Bloom, an economics professor at Stanford University who studies remote work.
Remote-Hybrid Jobs In 2026: Do Experts Predict Sizzle Or Fizzle?: Remote-hybrid jobs have reshaped when and where the American workforce works. What’s next?
Tools That Make Remote Work Less of a Grind: There are tools out there that can smooth the edges of your remote workday. The best ones do not try to reinvent the wheel — they make it easier to use the one you already have.
The Top Habit of High-Performing Remote Workers
Whether you're looking to leave the 9-to-5, or you're already a remote worker wanting to stick at it for the long haul, I strongly believe this habit is essential.
While remote work can often look like beaches, palm trees, and Friday cocktails, staying motivated and being productive can be tough.
Those who stay the course, tend to have one thing in common.

🙌 Deep work.
Everyone's had the experience of working in a busy office.
There you spent all day trying to wade through important tasks while getting distracted by Karen from accounts, Jennifer who wants the colours to pop more, and John who wants to go out for yet another coffee. 🫠
Being able to fully focus your attention on one task at a time is a superpower, and it's the #1 skill in a remote worker's arsenal.
Stay focussed
Just because you're working remotely - whether that's from home or a cafe in Thailand - it doesn't mean there aren't distractions.
Slack, text messages, piles emails, all of these pings can pull you away from the essential project at hand. If you want to succeed remotely, it's essential to turn those notifications off and carve out time for deep work.
Deep work can look like:
Logging off all social media while you work.
Going into airplane mode to avoid pings.
Popping on noise cancelling headphones to lock in.
Working on one task at a time without project shifting.
In the words of Cal Newport: “When you work, work hard. When you’re done, be done.”

What were you doing before?
Before becoming fully remote, I worked as a Design Manager at a commercial design agency, leading a team designing interior environments and exhibition spaces for global brands including Ferrero, Mars, Starbucks, Costa Coffee and Coca-Cola. Although my role allowed remote working, I was required to visit the office twice a month.
On paper, it was an ideal position. The role was well paid and offered a high level of flexibility.
However, as someone who has always loved travel, the reality of being limited to 21 days holiday indefinitely forced me to reassess my priorities. Despite the flexibility, I was still tied to a desk.
This led me to start building my own design agency, Pingd. I had the skills, experience and industry knowledge, but no clear roadmap for where to begin. The idea of working fully remotely while travelling and building something of my own had always been a long-term ambition. At that point, it felt like the right time to take the risk and give it a proper go.
Something always stuck with me, and that was "You don't have to be great at the start, but you have to start to be great".
It became clear to me that many people are curious about remote work and considering a move away from the traditional nine-to-five. So I began sharing content about what a remote lifestyle really looks like. I left the UK at 34 to continue building my agency, and my first Instagram post reached over half a million people. Since then, more than 15,000 people have followed my journey. I now receive daily messages from people who feel inspired, and the questions I’m asked most often are, “How do I get into remote work?” and “I feel stuck in my 9-to-5 and dream of working remotely”.
What are you doing now?

I'm currently travelling and working remotely around South East Asia, countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
I’ve fallen in love with the freedom, food and culture and to be able to just pack my laptop into a bag and fly to another country the next day if I feel like it. I'm continuing the build my design agency, growing my client base.
I'm also working on launching 'Unbound' a program that helps ambitious individuals build remote careers, create online income, and experience real freedom with a global community behind them.
This is launching in April 2026 and I'm really excited to see where this goes.
Working remotely comes with its own challenges and it is not all sunshine and coconuts on the beach. I learnt this the hard way in Sri Lanka, when severe storms caused widespread power cuts and loss of internet for several days. I nearly lost a client after missing three important meetings. It was a reminder that while remote work offers freedom, it also requires adaptability and resilience. You cannot plan for everything and you can't control everything.
Why are you a believer in remote work?
I believe in remote work because it allows people to design their lives around what actually matters to them, without sacrificing ambition or standards. This doesn't have to be travel like me, it could be that you want to stay at home to spend more time with your children, the dread and cost of the 2 hour commute or you just like the flexibility to work in an office and at home if someone is ill.
When done properly, remote work creates better focus, fewer distractions and a healthier balance between work and life. It removes geography as a limitation and opens up opportunities based on skill and value rather than location. I have met so many like-minded people since leaving the UK, all building remote businesses and travelling.
From my own experience, remote work has pushed me to become more disciplined, adaptable and intentional with how I work and who I work with. It is not easier, but it is more empowering. For the right people and the right roles, remote work is not a trend, it’s a smarter way of working.
I had a moment in Sri Lanka, whilst working on my laptop from the balcony of the apartment. A family of Toque Macaques (Monkeys) ran across the about a metre in front of me. They all stopped one by one and stared at me before carrying on running. I laughed, sipped my coffee and carried on working.
That made me realise how lucky I am be in a position to work where ever I want and experience moments like this.
I started documented my whole journey whilst building a remote business, took notes, built certain systems and checklists and wrote an e-book about everything to help people who don't know where to start just like I didn’t.

I'm giving this away for free to help others that are thinking of doing the same and have no idea where to begin.
